Course Syllabus

  1. One-Year Full Time MASTERS PROGRAM IN GOVERNMENT has been divided into 4 MODULES. 
  2. EACH MODULE comprises of 12 WEEKS.

 

MODULE I - POLITICS

I)             INDIAN POLITICS

  1. Provides an understanding of the structural and procedural dimensions of political processes in India.
  2. Introduction to key concepts of governance & the Indian Constitution.

II)            INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

  1. Understanding the theoretical approaches to world politics.
  2. Knowledge about key International and Regional institutions.  

III)             COMPARATIVE STUDY OF GOVERNMENTS

  1. Interrelationship of Politics and the Government
  2. Exploring: U.K., U.S.A., Russia, France, China, and other South Asian Countries – Pakistan, Sri Lanka etc

PROJECT: Account analysis – recording all the observations of pre election activity.

WORKSHOPS:

  • Campaign Management.
  • Psephological workshop.
  • Constituency Management.

MODULE II – DEVELOPMENT STUDIES

I)            INDIAN ADMINISTRATION

  1. Understanding the structures and processes of the workings of the Indian government.
  2. Relationship between the political executives and the civil servants.

II)            PUBLIC POLICY

  1. Understanding the process of formulation, implementation, execution and impact of Public Policies

III)            INDIAN ECONOMY

  1. Sectoral reforms and impact of the Liberalization, Privatization & Globalization.

PROJECT: Account Analysis.

WORKSHOPS:

  1. Visits to all the local self government offices.
  2. General & sectoral foundations of policy formulations.
  3. Financial aspects of development.

MODULE III – CONFLICT RESOLUTION and PEACE STUDIES

I)            POLITICAL SOCIOLOGY OF INDIA           

  1. Impact of the various cultures, religions on the political structure of the country
  2. Political Economy as a factor in Indian Bureaucracy and Politics

II)            CONFLICT RESOLUTION AND PEACE STUDIES.

  1. Understanding approaches to modern day crisis, conflict management and resolution
  2. Knowledge of concepts of peace and linkages of peace with conflict

III)            NON-STATE ACTORS

  1. Emergence of NGOs – creation, formulation and management
  2. Role of Non State Actors in risk / crisis / disaster management

PROJECT: Account Analysis.

WORKSHOPS:

  1. “Coping with Vulnerability”
  2. “Profiling Terrorism”
  3. Alternative Dispute Redressal Mechanisms

MODULE IV

  1. Comprises of a 3 week INTERNATIONAL STUDY TOUR followed by an attachment of 4–6 weeks duration in the areas of interest of the candidates.

  2. During this period each student shall work on a thesis and submit the same to the Panel Members depending on the field they choose to work in future.

Note: Sessions on Political Leadership, Political Oratory / Communication, Strategic Management, and Media Skills shall be a conducted throughout the academic year.
