INTERNATIONAL THREE DAYS ROUND TABLE CONFERENCE
 


National Three Day Round Table Conference was held from 30th January 2010 to 1st February 2010 at the Saint Dnyaneshwara Hall, MAEER’s MIT Pune.  

A visit to Gandhi Memorial, Yeravada Central Jail was organized at 3.00p.m. on Saturday, 30th Jan.2010 to pay respects to the Memory of Mahatma Gandhi on his 62nd Death Anniversary, also known as “Martyrs Day”. (Gandhi ji was housed in the Yeravada Central Jail in Pune during India’s Freedom Struggle. His cell in this prison is still cherished as a Memorial in his name.)
The inaugural function of the conference began on Sunday, 31st January 2010 at 9.30 a.m. The theme of the conference was “Pathways to World Peace Through Democratic Change”.
 
            The Chief Guest of the function was Hon’ble Dr. Budhacharan Das, President, Bodhisatva Foundation,Thailand. Hon’ble Prof. Dr. James L. Peacock and Hon’ble Prof. Dr. Francis Lethem, Co-Directors Duke-UNC, Rotary Peace Center, USA were the Keynote Speakers. Hon’ble Mr. Satyanarayan Sahu, Joint Secretary, Rajya Sabha Secretariat & Former Director, PMO Office, New Delhi & Hon’ble Dr. Bimal Patel, Director, Gujrat National Law University were the Guests of Honor. 

The following sub-themes were extensively discussed  and deliberated upon through presentations and interactive sessions.
(1) Establishing “Culture of Peace” through Democratic Change-Role of State, NGOs and International Organizations.
(2) Scientific Approach to Promoting Harmony and Peace in the World.
(3) Essence and Philosophy of World Religions & Spirituality in Promoting Global Peace.
(4) Resolving Conflicts and Minimizing Confusion and Chaos in the Global Society-A Democratic Approach.
(5) Peaceful Coexistence Through Sustainable Development – Need to Minimize Ecological Imbalance, Pollution and Uncontrolled Exploitation of Natural Resources on Priority Basis.
(6) Scientific Ways and Methods to Minimize Social and Economic Disparity.
(7)Need for value Based Universal Education System.

On this occasion, Scholars, Thinkers, Philosophers, well-known Scientists, Academicians, Educationists, Spiritual/Religious leaders and socially committed personnel as well as MIT-SOG students  participated in the deliberations of this specially organized “Three Days Round Table Conference”  being held from Saturday, the 30th January 2010 at MIT.

POVERTY IS THE MAIN HURDLE FOR WORLD PEACE 

- Dr. James Peacock

Pune 31st Jan.: “35% people in the world are living below the poverty line.  Therefore we can not expect the existence of World Peace in this condition.” Said  Dr. James L. Peacock, Co-director, Duke-UNC Rotary Peace Centre, USA.   He was delivering the key note address in the inaugural program of  Three Day National Round Table Conference Organized by World Peace Center (Alandi), MAEER’s MIT, Pune. Dr. Budhacharan Das, President, Bodhisatva Foundation, Thailand  presided over the function.

Karad,  President, World Peace Center, MAEER’s MIT, Pune,  Dr. Francis Lethem, Co-Directors Duke-UNC, Rotary Peace Center, USA,   Mr. Satyanarayan Sahu, Joint Secretary, Rajya Sabha Secretariat & Former Director, PMO Office, New Delhi,   Prof. Rahul Vishwanath Karad, Founder Dean, MIT School of Government,  Mr. Darshan Mundada, Secretary General, Youth Forum, World Peace Center of MAEER’s MIT, Pune & Prof. Dr. Milind Pande, Director MIT School of Telecom & Management,  Pune were present on this occasion. 

            Dr. James Peacock added, We are exploiting the natural resources up to the dangerous level.  This greed of the rich people is going to lead to a critical condition for the generations to come.  We should control this process for world peace.”

Dr. Francis Lethem Said, “The dialogue between Arjuna and Krishna in Bhagwadgeeta is the best example for the Philosophy behind World Peace.  All the aspects of  life have been described in Geeta for the behavior of Man in the crisis.”

Dr. Budhacharan Das Said, “We are searching for peace outside.  But the real peace stays inside.  Once the human race starts looking inside,  the conflicts between the people in the world on the basis of religion,  race,  country and so many other things will automatically vanish.  Today we are living in Kaliyug i.e. black age and will reach to Ramrajya i.e. Satyayug.”

GANDHI’S LIFE IS THE TORCH FOR FUTURE

- American Gandhi

Pune 1st Feb.: “Mahatma Gandhi’s Life is the massage itself.  Whenever we want  to proceed further, we can take the help of Gandhian Philosophy to solve the problems.” Said Mr. Bernie Mayor, a.k.a. American Gandhi.  He was delivering lecture at the valedictory function of  Three Day International Round Table Conference Organized by World Peace Center (Alandi), MAEER’s MIT, Pune.  Prof. Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad,  President, World Peace Center, MAEER’s MIT, Pune, presided over the function.
            Mr. Bernie Mayor (American Gandhi)  added, “The people in the world are suffering from terrorism,  inequality, poverty and so many things.  Whenever any leader thinks of fighting against  social injustice, nuclear weapons, global worming, declining of human values etc.  with the help of people, he turns to the path of truth and non violence which has been practiced by Mahatma Gandhi. Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela and others have followed the path of Mahatma Gandhi. “
            “Gandhi appealed to go to the villages and reduce our needs to live a simple and satisfied life. So many people in the world are still impressed by the thoughts and actions of Mahatma Gandhi. His simple living and high thinking caught the attention of the whole world. I am also one of them. I wear the cloths like Gandhi and try to behave as much as Gandhi used to behave.”

Dr. Budhacharan Das, Thailand,   Dr. James Peacock, USA,  Dr. Francis Lethem, USA,  Prof. Gary Nelson, USA, Prof. Marie Weil appreciated the efforts taken by the World Peace Center for organizing the Round Table Conference on ‘Pathways to World Peace Through Democratic Change’ and assured that they will convey the message throughout the world.

Prof. Dr. Vishwanath D. Karad said, “This is a very small but humble effort to create the atmosphere of World Peace.  So many people around the world are working on this front. It is necessary to create a network of such people and that of institutions.  The World Peace Center (Alandi), MAEER’s MIT, Pune will do its best consistently in this direction.”

    • Prof. Dr. Milind Pande compeered the function.
    • Mr. Darshan Mundada gave the vote of thanks.
    • The function was started with World Peace Prayer & was concluded with Pasayadan. 
    • The Pune declaration 2010 was prepared and was passed by all delegates.




The participants conducted Model Parliament, Emulating the seat of Indian Democracy in the presence of Mr. P.A. Sangma 14th October, 2006

Graced by the presence of very charismatic and erudite Ex-Speaker of Lok Sabha, Shri Purno Sangma, who also acted as a Speaker in this Model Parliament, exclusively set up and performed by the Participants of MIT SOG MDG 02. All factual proceedings of the Lok Sabha, including Passing of a Bill, Amendment Procedures, and Rejection of No-Confidence Motion posed by the Opposition, Laying of the Papers etc. were performed under the able guidance of Mr. Bhagwan Gujar (Ex- Secretary General of the Rajya Sabha).

An Initiative on the Worlds AIDS Day – Street Play, 1st December 2006.

The scourge of the modern word - AIDS - was marked by street plays all over the city of Pune, on World AIDS Day - 1st December 2006. An AIDS Devil, on stilts, was let loose in the city and then finally captured and controlled by the Participants of MDG 02. One of the highlights of the day was performance of the Street Play performed amidst Commercial Sex Workers of Pune. The Grand finale, of the street plays, took place at the Shanivaar Wada - a historic monument of Pune. Leading newspapers of the City and State flashed this event for many weeks following the event.

Conferences

  • One day Round Table conference on The Need to Promote Tolerance, Unity, in Cultural Diversity for World Peace, 16th November, 2006

Democracy demands peace and peace perpetuates democracy. The unity of the visions of MAEER and MIT-SOG thus came togetherto organize the one day round table conference on the Need to Promote Tolerance, Unity and Cultural Diversity for World Peace. Eminent speakers and specialists in the realm attended the conference and spoke on the premises of religion and its obvious relation to tolerance, unity and diversity. A thought-provoking agenda it was; to say the least.

  • The one-day round table SEZ national conference 30th January, 2007 

The MIT-School of Government organized the one-day national conference on Special Economic Zones. The Governmental Authorities, Private Players, Economists and representatives of the farmers discussed the SEZ Issue. The SEZ Act was also included in the discussion - and the suggestions of these Experts were formulated as Pune Declaration.

Workshop
  • Discussion on current constitutional issues” was held by ILS Law College, Pune on 11th March 2007

One-day workshop was held by ILS Law College in the memory of late Dr. S.P. Sathe.  MPG02 participants attended this workshop and were privileged to listen the eminent speakers.

  • “NGO Exposure Workshop”, 24 & 25 February, 2007 was held by Gandhi National Memorial Society, Agakhan Palace, Pune. In this two-day workshop the participants got an insight into the functioning, registration process, fundraising technique, strategic management and other operational challenges of NGO. The participants got hands on experience as they not only saw current set-up and activities undertaken by the Gandhi National Memorial Society, an NGO working at Agakhan Palace, but also got to learn from the stalwarts about their experiences. This workshop was conducted exclusively for MIT-SOG participants.
 
  • Building a career, building the nation: career-counseling workshopby Ma Foion 6th April 2007

The niche career of politics needs more than just regular counseling. It was with this view that the daylong workshop with the vibrant counselors from Ma Foi Placement Consultants was held. The workshop provided the participants an insight about everything pertinent to a career, especially a political one. Ranging from the importance of communication to the exploration of invisible career avenues, the counselors taught them the importance of standing tall and thinking big.

  • Workshop on Electoral Processes– by CSDS (Centre for Study of Developing Societies, Delhi)13th January, 2007

The workshop on Electoral Processes by CSDS provided the inside stories and those outside it other valuable insights to the participants in the daylong workshop. The speaker focused on the misuse of Money and Muscle Power in Electoral processes in India. And also stressed on the importance of youth involvement in politics to change the dynamics of the entire political structure.  

Other Activities

  • Eternal Gandhi Multimedia Exhibition

The participants were enthralled by the Eternal Gandhi multimedia exposition, the first of its kind digital exhibition. The young participants really go the feel of history in a contemporary setting and also revived the values by which our motherland obtained freedom. 

    • MPG02 participants participated in both the Essay/Presentation Competition and Elocution Competition held by All India Management Association, Pune. The MPG02 participant won 1st Prize for the Easy/Presentation Competition.
