The second session was taken by Prof. Ms. Barbara Heezen-Garritsen on 'European Integration'. She took a quiz to assess the knowledge of the participants regarding the European Union and the winner Ms. Mansi Desai was given a T-Shirt with the logo of the Hague University. She elaborated upon the process of European integration by outlining the various phases in the formation of the European Union. She discussed in detail about the three pillar structure of the European Union. She also elaborated upon the governing institutions of the EU such as the European Council, the Council of Ministers, the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Court of Justice, the European Court of Auditors and the European Central Bank. |

The third session was conducted by Prof. Earnst van Bammelen on Human Rights. He elaborated the concept of human rights in the context of international Law. |

After these enlightening sessions, the MIT SOG team had lunch in the Hague University and then headed towards Rotterdam, which is the busiest harbor in Europe.
July 15th the team visited the office of the Global Human Rights Defense (GHRD) received by Mr. Nizad Bissubhar, Secretary GHRD. He made a presentation about the work of the GHRD and explained the methodologies used for accomplishing the tasks. Methods such as Case Documentation and reporting, Urgent appeals, lobbying/Campaigning, Universal Periodic Review, Special Procedures, News Scans/International tools and Annual Reports. The presentation was followed by sessions on European Union and Human Rights. After the lunch, Mr. Nizad conducted a workshop for the participants, where they were divided into groups and asked to make presentations on "Comparative Analysis of India and Netherlands in terms of Democratization". The presentations proved to be very fruitful for getting clarity about the comparative strengths and weaknesses on the democracy in India as well as Netherlands.

On 16th July, the Academy of Public Management, Safety and Law at the Hague University conducted sessions for the MIT SOG team. Prof. Cor Sniders took a session on 'Democracy and Culture'. He explained, what is democracy as per the Economist Intelligence unit? Later, he elaborated upon the concept of culture as how it can help us understand why humans act in the way they do and what similarities and differences exist among them. Culture embodies ideas and practices that support patterns of domination or hegemony within and between cultures. After lunch the students were divided into groups and they were given time to prepare group presentations on a comparative analysis of democracies in India and Netherlands. The presentations were judged by an independent panel of juries from the Hague University. After the presentations, the Dean of the Academy of Public Safety and Law, Mr. Tim van Tongreen gave a concluding speech. His speech was followed by the ceremony of distribution of certificates for participation in the 'International Public Management and Law summer program' to the participants of MIT SOG. A small informal get together after the certificate distribution ceremony was organized. |
