Appreciating the work being carried out by World Peace Centre, UNESCO has established a UNESCO Chair in Human Rights, Democracy and Peace at World Peace Centre of MAEER's MIT, Pune, India with the same objectives as those of the World Peace Centre. In fact UNESCO, Paris has commended the work of MAEER's MIT, Pune in the following words "The UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme has provided a fresh impetus to the involvement of higher education institutions in teaching and research, devoted to peace, international law and international relations, human rights and democracy. Since 1992 around 30 UNESCO Chairs in Human Rights, Democracy and Peace have been established throughout the world. These have been joined by the interdisciplinary UNESCO Chairs for a Culture of Peace.
A Noteworthy example is the recent establishment of the UNESCO Chair in Human Rights, Democracy and Peace at the World Peace Centre (Alandi) of the Maharashtra Institute of Technology, Pune, India. In 1996 and 1998 this MIT, a branch of the MAEER has organized two World Philosophers Meet, dedicated to Science, Religion and Philosophy. The aim of MIT's World Peace Centre can be summarised by Article 26 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights".
